Living on the Jordanelle Side

The Jordanelle side is where Park City is growing fastest: communities rising on the hills around Jordanelle Reservoir in Wasatch County, with Deer Valley’s new East Village at the center.

At a glance

  • Where. Along US-40 around Jordanelle Reservoir, about 15 to 20 minutes from Main Street.
  • Homes. Everything from ski-in, ski-out condos at East Village to townhomes, single-family homes and large homesites in newer communities around the reservoir.
  • Skiing. Deer Valley’s East Village base, with gondola access to the rest of the mountain.
  • Outside. Jordanelle State Park, with its Hailstone, Rock Cliff and Ross Creek areas, for boating, paddling, camping and the trail around the reservoir.
  • Errands. Limited for now. Heber and Kimball Junction cover most everyday needs.
  • Getting around. High Valley Transit’s Wasatch Back Connector links the area with Park City and Heber.
  • Schools. Wasatch County School District. Check any address with the district.

Daily life

Summer here revolves around the water and, increasingly, winter revolves around the new lifts. It’s a different rhythm from central Park City, with more open space and a lot still to come.

Worth knowing

Much of the area is planned and approved but not yet built. For more on Deer Valley’s new base, see my guide to Deer Valley East Village.

My take

My go-to spot. Jordanelle Reservoir in summer, especially early in the morning before the lake gets busy.

What people don’t realize. You’re buying into both the current setting and its future. Resort expansion, roads, construction phases and planned amenities need to be part of the decision.

What I love most. The combination of water and mountains. It offers a different lifestyle than central Park City, with an exciting amount of growth ahead.

If you’d like to see the Jordanelle side the way I’d show it, say hello.
