Midway sits at the western edge of the Heber Valley, about 20 minutes south of Park City. Swiss settlers arrived in the 1860s, and the town still wears that heritage, from its Alpine-style buildings to Swiss Days every Labor Day weekend.
At a glance
- Where. In the Heber Valley, Wasatch County, at about 5,650 feet.
- Homes. Historic homes near Main Street, newer neighborhoods and larger properties on the open land around town.
- Skiing. Park City and Deer Valley’s East Village are each about 20 to 30 minutes away, and Soldier Hollow has Nordic skiing and tubing in winter.
- Outside. Wasatch Mountain State Park, Soldier Hollow’s golf and Nordic trails, Deer Creek Reservoir and the Homestead Crater, a geothermal spring inside a limestone dome where you can swim year-round.
- Errands. Café Galleria, Midway Mercantile, Midway Bakery and a small Main Street, with Heber for the rest.
- Getting around. High Valley Transit’s free on-demand service covers Midway.
- Schools. Wasatch County School District. Check any address with the district.
Daily life
Midway moves at its own pace. Summer brings festival weekends and long evenings outside, winter brings Nordic skiing at Soldier Hollow, and a soak in the Crater works any time of year.
Worth knowing
Soldier Hollow hosted the Nordic and biathlon events at the 2002 Olympics and is expected to host them again in 2034.
My take
My go-to spot. Café Galleria, especially when the weather is warm enough for the garden.
What people don’t realize. Midway has its own identity. It isn’t simply a more distant Park City neighborhood. The pace, community, landscape and everyday routines feel distinctly different.
What I love most. The charm. It feels beautiful and established without trying too hard, and the surrounding open land still gives the town room to breathe.
If you’d like to see Midway the way I’d show it, say hello.
