Thaynes Canyon wraps around the Park City Golf Club, just below the McPolin Barn and a few minutes from Main Street. It’s one of the town’s quieter, more established neighborhoods, with tall trees and old ranch history all around it.

At a glance
- Where. Off Thaynes Canyon Drive, around the Park City Golf Club and close to SR-224.
- Homes. Mostly established single-family homes among mature trees, with condos nearby, including ski-in, ski-out options near the Silver Star lift.
- Skiing. The Silver Star lift at Park City Mountain is close by, and the town base is a short drive or bus ride.
- Outside. The city’s public golf course, which becomes groomed cross-country ski trails in winter, plus the Armstrong and Spiro trailheads at Silver Star.
- Errands. Silver Star Café at the base of the Silver Star lift, and groceries a few minutes away in town.
- Getting around. Free city buses serve the neighborhood, and a new bus rapid transit station is planned at Thaynes Canyon Drive.
- Schools. Park City School District. Check any address with the district’s own locator.
Daily life
The golf course sets the pace. Summer mornings start with a tee time or a walk along the edge of the course, and in winter the same fairways turn into cross-country trails. This was ranch and dairy country before the course opened as the nine-hole Treasure Mountain course in 1964.
Worth knowing
Many homes here are decades old, so updates, systems and how a house has been cared for vary a great deal from one to the next.
My take
My go-to spot. Silver Star Café, especially when the patio is open.
What people don’t realize. It feels much more private than you’d expect for a neighborhood this close to town. Winter sun and driveway exposure can also vary significantly from one street to the next.
What I love most. It has genuine Park City history and character without feeling busy or touristy.
If you’d like to see Thaynes Canyon the way I’d show it, say hello.
