Schools and Childcare

This is the question I hear most from families, and the one I answer most carefully. I can tell you how things are organized and where to check. Which school is right for your child is a decision for you, a visit and the schools themselves.

Start with the address

A Park City mailing address doesn’t guarantee Park City School District. The district covers Park City and most of the Snyderville Basin. Parts of the wider area fall in South Summit School District, which serves the Kamas Valley, and the Jordanelle side is in Wasatch County, where the county district opened a second high school, Deer Creek High, this fall.

Before you get attached to a house, run the address through the district’s own locator. Park City’s is here, and Wasatch County’s is linked from its boundaries page.

Park City School District

The district has four elementary schools, Jeremy Ranch, McPolin, Parley’s Park and Trailside, each serving preschool through fifth grade. Ecker Hill Middle School serves grades six through eight, and Park City High School serves nine through twelve. That layout dates from fall 2025, when Treasure Mountain Junior High closed and its grades moved.

Dual language immersion begins in first grade. Trailside and Jeremy Ranch offer French and Parley’s Park offers Spanish, as programs families apply to, with a lottery when demand is greater than space. McPolin is different: the whole school is Spanish dual language immersion, so it isn’t optional there.

The district runs preschool at all four elementaries for three- and four-year-olds who live within its boundaries. After-school care runs until 6 p.m., though most sites keep a waitlist.

Utah allows families to apply to schools outside their boundary. The early window runs from November 15 to the first Friday in February, and a place depends on capacity. Confirm the current status with the district before counting on it.

Charter and independent schools

  • Weilenmann School of Discovery. A tuition-free public charter, kindergarten through eighth grade, with a preschool.
  • Park City Day School. Independent, nursery through eighth grade.
  • Winter Sports School. A high school whose academic year runs April to November, so that students can train and compete in winter.
  • Picabo Street Academy. Private, with flexible scheduling and year-round enrollment.
  • Telos Classical Academy. A private school offering a classical Christian education.

Childcare

Plan early, particularly for infants.

  • PC Tots is a nonprofit with three centers for children from eight weeks to five years, with sliding-scale tuition.
  • Scholarships. Park City and Summit County fund needs-based childcare scholarships for qualifying local families with children under kindergarten age.
  • Preschools. Beyond the district, the area has several Montessori and nature-based preschools. Tour a few, and ask about waitlists early.
  • Deer Valley Children’s Center is state-licensed and takes children from two months to twelve years in winter, by reservation.
  • Summer. Park City Recreation’s day camp opens registration in mid-March, and places are limited.

The state’s Care About Childcare site lets you search licensed providers, and the licensing division’s Find a Facility tool shows each one’s compliance record.

Getting involved

As a parent here, the community support behind the Park City Education Foundation has been one of the most impressive parts of our experience. I’d encourage families to explore its work and the programs it supports. It offers another window into school life here and a great starting point for getting involved.

Before you buy

If you’re planning to live here full-time, make school district boundaries and any language immersion preferences part of your home search from the beginning. Beyond that, schedule a tour and ask your questions early. Hearing directly from the schools and seeing them in person can help you picture what everyday life might look like for your family.

Park City offers an unusual mix: public schools, specialized private programs and major universities within commuting distance, all in a mountain town.
